POC Panel Members

POC and Self-Assessment Panel Members

The Practicing Ophthalmologists Curriculum (POC) serves as the basis for the MOC Exam Study Guide and MOC Exam Self-Assessment products.

The POC was developed by a group of dedicated practicing ophthalmologists reflecting a diversity of background, training, practice type and geographic distribution, with 50% of the panel members being time-limited certificate holders. In addition to providing a basis for Academy Maintenance of Certification (MOC) products, the POC defines what ophthalmic knowledge will be tested by the American Board of Ophthalmology on their Maintenance of Certification examination.

Richard L. Abbott, MD, American Academy of Ophthalmology Secretary for Quality of Care and Knowledge Base Development, serves as the overall leader of the POC project.

Edward J. Rockwood, MD, American Academy of Ophthalmology Chair of the Self-Assessment Committee, serves as the overall leader of the MOC Exam Self-Assessment project.

In addition, the Academy gratefully acknowledges the contributions of subspecialty society leaders and members, members of the Practicing Ophthalmology Advisory Committee for Education, members of the Ethics Committee, and members of the Vision Rehabilitation Committee for their review and contributions to the POC.
