The photograph shows a congenital nuclear cataract. The opacified central nucleus stands out against the relatively clear outer lens.
The patient had similar appearances in both eyes and a positive family history, suggesting possible autosomal dominance. Changes may be only slowly progressive. This patient required surgery in the late teenage years.
